goddess holidays

A lovely solstice ritual was joined by these (and more) folks in Zepherhills, FL last weekend.

Happy Christmas...here's MoonDancer #2 floating on clouds joyfully.

While Gaia holds her bounty in a basket of offerings.

Gaia does wear a crown, showing she's a queen, as well as mother of all nature's beauties.

One of which is the feline who lives with me, and was born on my birthday 12 years ago.

Moondancer #1 is tentative in her stepping into the dance of feminity.

While the autumn folliage bursts forth with abundant colors.

And mountain laurel (or rhododendrons, I never can tell the difference) graces our springtimes.

Several years ago I was glad to have Marjorie as our minister for a "Fesival of Lights". She is now part of the greater Light of all Being.

Several members of our choir from back then have also joined the great unknown. Goodbye to the fair voices of Susan and Priscilla.

We brought the light back on solstice then as well.

And lit a jolly yule log.

Looking out back porch window.

I spied a little grey hungry bird...what is it?

Our source of all...thanks for the blessings.
The dark virgin of Guadalupe. An old goddess who became Mary.

Another old goddess/queen wore these beautiful gold and lapis ornaments in her grave.

Fortunately someone carved Inana in stone several thousand years ago.
Enjoy the festivals of the goddess holidays!

December pottery

Surprise! This will be Rosie's mug, whenever we get together to celebrate Solstice, or whatever holiday needs toasting with a mug of nice hot whatever!
Closeup of Rosie's mug.

The 2 mugs Rosie also ordered, for someone special.

This is a pretty big bowl, with some neat glaze pooling inside...for my pagan friend in FL who I'll be seeing in a couple of days!

Barb's bowl...for Barb the pagan Floridian.

My card holder has a bit of "moon dancer one" remembered.

Marty and Cinn's casserole.

gifts for family

This little blue casserole is for my son and his wife, cause they really enjoy cooking together. This is a "Black Mountain Blue" glaze with HR Satin white glaze, on stoneware, fired to cone 6.

The same blue glaze is on this tea set, the cups, saucers and sugar and creamer for one of my granddaughters. The actual tea pot has some other blues and greens on it...they are all stoneware, cone 6.

My other granddaughter will get the celadon with blue set, which had some flowers and leaves on the cups and saucers but they kind of bled out in the kiln...so now it's just some blobs of colors.

Today I went and bought a plastic tea set (thanks Barbie) for the 2 year old, who of course will be playing with all these as well. She's got her hands into everything.

Holly Jolly Time

I'm so glad to have been part of the first Clay Art Sales at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts Holly Jolly Festival. We community members and students were glad to be included in the gallery show with the resident potters, and to have a chance to sell our art, as well as contribute to the Center for the Arts.

The day before our gallery opening and sale, Abby is busy glazing a piece in the studio.

As the crowds start to arrive, A.J. is putting final touches on one of his pieces.

This is the one piece of mine, Gaia, which was put in the gallery exhibit. I was really disappointed to not get my other piece put in the show. The lovely pierced pot on the lower pedestal was by Geof.

I believe all of these pieces were by Lane.

These are also Lane's.

This wall plaque is by Abby.

Some of the student's works. I know the group piece on the right is by Abby, and the large pod vases are by Maureen. I don't remember who made the other pieces in this group.

These polyhedrons are by my son, Tai Rogers.

Annie did the work in the back, and I think the lower shelves have Karen's work. Some of my pictures weren't in focus, so there are some pots which you'll just have to go see in person in the gallery. The exhibit in the gallery will be up for the rest of December during the hours the Center for the Arts is open.

Tai is waiting to wrap some pottery, which was his job during part of the sale.
Some of our friendly Unitarian Universalist men (Emory, Robert and David) gather to talk ab0ut pottery (of course).

David and Jane enjoyed the great refreshments, as well as the pottery.

Jane and Angie discuss pottery and perhaps a little UU business.

Beate was a member of the sales force (as I was) who made sure folks knew who the potters were, and then urged people to go see the studio after they shopped.

Ursula (another UU artist) stood by her newest work, which also was in the gallery area.

Some of the student's work on sale.

Marcia was in charge of refreshments. Thanks a lot...they were great!

We were seranaded by Emily who played classical music with vigor...what a talent! Thanks Emily!

A table with my work on the far left, and pieces by Elise, Ursula and Maureen, and I think a few other people's as well.

My sales area.

Karen's work on one end of a long table, my area in the middle, and Marcia's on the far end.

Ursula and Sue are exclaming over something...probably the beauty of the works and how reasonable the prices were!
I was amazed and astounded to see at least 75, maybe 100 people come through in the 2 hours that our sale was open. And though it was crowded, it was just a right traffic pattern that the floor plan allowed, so people kept moving through. Good job to those volunteers who did the work!
